Instructions

The Monroe Housing Authority is accepting online applications for the Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly Section 8) beginning at 9:00 AM CT on Monday, September 14, 2026, and continuing until 4:00 PM CT on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

 

The online application portal will be available 24 hours a day during the waiting list open dates. Paper applications will NOT be available and fax requests will not be accepted.

 

After you have successfully applied, you should print the confirmation of application that appears on the last page of the process. You may also receive a confirmation via email if an email address is provided. If you do not have an e-mail account, you will have the opportunity to create one while completing the application.

 

Here are the few things to remember:

  • You are placed on the wait list by date and time of application. 
  • Monroe Housing Authority has no emergency housing. Call 211 for assistance.
  • If we are unable to contact you at the address you provided, you will be removed from the waiting list.  All mailing address changes MUST be submitted in writing. 
  • You MUST save your Log In ID and Password!! You will need them to check the status of your application. Please do not call Monroe Housing Authority for status updates for your application.

Preferences:  The Public Housing Program offers accelerated placement for the following reasons: 

  • Elderly or disable head (or co-head) of household
  • Involuntary displacement (disaster, Govt action)
  • Veterans or surviving spouse

If you are eligible to receive a preference, there is a Preference Section on the application that MUST be answered. If you answer YES to the preference question, you will be REQUIRED to provide verification of said preference at the time of your appointment. If you are unable to provide said verification, then the preference will be removed, and you will be placed back on the waiting list at the applicable date and time of the application.

 

Reasonable Accommodation:  It is the policy of the Monroe Housing Authority to provide reasonable accommodations to those persons with disabilities so that they can participate equally in the housing programs.
