Welcome to the St. James Parish Housing Authority's Public Housing Waiting List application portal!

Please Read Carefully:

The St. James Parish Housing Authority is accepting online applications for our Public Housing waiting list(s). The online application portal is available 24 hours a day during the open waiting list period. Paper Applications are no longer available and only applications submitted through this portal are accepted and added to the waiting list(s).   For reasonable accommodation requests, please call our main office at 225 869 3278 x207.

We are accepting applications for all properties and bedroom sizes:  (You may select at least three properties at one time. The bedroom size will be assigned based on your application and those listed so be sure to include everyone who will be living with you.  If you are currently pregnant/expecting a child or in the adoption process, you may list your unborn child as unborn if you would like the child to be considered for application size based on our occupancy rules. You are not required to add this information at this time, but your placement on the lists may be subject to change if you are selected for an apartment size that your household might not qualify for.  If your household composition changes after your application is submitted, you should call the offices at 225 869 3278 x1 to submit the changes and update your application or you can send an email from the portal.)

Oscar Brooks (Lutcher, LA): 1, 2, 3, and 4-bedrooms

Vacherie (Magnolia Gardens): 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedrooms

Baytree (Weber Drive): 1, 2, 3 bedrooms (there are no 4-bedroom apartments in this complex)

St. James-Hymel (Welcome - Mill Street): 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedrooms

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Please be sure to completely fill out ALL questions and do not leave information blank or your application will be not be processed.

Our waiting list is a computer-based system and your position on the list will be based on the information you provide.

It is very important to update your application with ANY AND ALL CHANGES TO YOUR STATUS OR HOUSEHOLD COMPOSITION after submitting your online application. You can only do this in writing by mail at P.O. BOX 280, Lutcher, LA 70071, or you can call our administrative offices at 225 869 3278 x1 to speak with one to update your information or you can email us directly from your application or by visiting our website at www.stjameshousing.com

We must be able to always reach you by at least one of your forms of contact provided, or your application may be REMOVED FOR YOUR failure to respond.

PLEASE DO NOT COMPLETE OR ENTER DUPLICATE APPLICATIONS.  If you enter your information and it shows you have an existing profile, please call the office for further assistance with updating your application.

Your application will be placed on the waiting list(s) you select based on the date and time of your application.  Your status does not change until those families that are ahead of you are either housed or removed.  Your situation or those in your community cannot change your status or speed up your housing process.

It is a good idea to make sure you have the following documents and keep them in a reliable place until you are contacted. Your full application, once you are contacted, cannot be processed without:  State Issued ID or DL for all household members 18 and older, official birth certificates for all household members, social security cards for all household members.  (All other required documents will be requested at the time of your interview, but these are some of the main reasons why applications are either denied or delayed as they are mandatory)

Your household income must not exceed the current Income limits as set by HUD and is based on your household size.  If your annual income is more than the income limit for your household size your application will be denied. We have found that sometimes the information is entered incorrectly, and you should always call the office (225 869 3278 x1) to request an informal review about a denial email to ensure we have the correct information.

  HOW TO APPLY:

You are now about to enter your application to be placed on our Agency’s OPEN Waiting list(s) of your choice.

Here are some important things to remember:

  There are no fees for applying to our Agency’s waiting list.

  You will be placed on the waiting list by date and time of your application and if you answer Yes to any preference questions (if applicable) the points will be applied to your application; however, you must be prepared to prove your preference status at the time of your full interview for approval.

  You must have an email address to complete your registration to apply.  If you do not currently have an email address, a link is provided for your convenience to set up a google email (gmail) account and it is quick and simple.  Once your app is completed, this system will create a receipt of application. Once you register and apply for your selected property, you will receive an email confirmation.

  When you have completed your registration process, you MUST SAVE your Log In ID and Password!! You will need them to check the status of your application. If you misplace your information to log in into your account you will still be able to remain on the list , however you will lose access to see your status (active vs inactive). Your only option to recover your log in information is through your phone number or email you previously provided.

  You may check the status of your application by logging into your online account or by calling our offices at 225 869 3278 x1. Once your application has been completed and successfully processed for eligibility and availability, you will be contacted by mail, telephone and/or email to set up a full eligibility interview whenever your name reaches the top of the waiting list.  When checking your online status, please remember your position may or may not change as apartments become available.  We currently do not have any way of providing potential times for when you will be contacted.  Many families have been on our waiting lists for as little as a few months, while others have been a few years.  Rest assured our waiting list is managed strictly by our policy and rules and families are contacted as they become eligible.

  Our Agency does not have Emergency Housing.  Our Public Housing program as governed by HUD regulations is based on the date and time of your application and offers are made as units become available.  If you feel your situation requires additional assistance and you cannot wait to be contacted by our program, you may contact your State’s Community Information Centers by calling 211 to look for other housing assistance or programs that might be of assistance to your immediate needs.  Also you may contact St. James Parish's Housing Counseling agency at 225 562 2352.  This program is not affiliated with our agency, but is a resource for housing information for citizens of St. James Parish.

  Reasonable Accommodations: It is the Policy of the Agency to provide reasonable accommodations to those persons with disabilities so that they can participate equally in our Public Housing program. If you feel you are in need of a reasonable accommodation, please contact the Housing Authority’s administrative office at 225 869 3278 x3 to leave a message for the agency's 504 Coordinator and your call will be returned within 48 hours or 2 business days.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SERVING YOU SOON!

If you are interested in our housing programs/complexes located in Convent Trace and Central Crossing, you must visit our website once you complete the public housing application and submit a separate application for each of those complexes. These complexes are no longer funded by HUD’s Public Housing program and have been transferred to their Multi-Family Housing division.  This means that they are subject to a few different rules and you must have an application on file for each of the complexes you are interested in.  Please note that your application for the PH complexes does not automatically qualify you for the MF housing complexes and cannot be transferred or added.

Thanks again for considering our Public Housing program! If you need assistance with understanding any of the information or our online application services, please feel free to contact our administrative office and ask to speak with our Leasing Specialist at (225) 869-3278. (direct extension 207)
