Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program
The HCV Program is a federally funded program that subsidizes safe, decent, and
sanitary housing for low-income persons. Applicants must meet all U.S. Department of
Housing and Urban Development income and eligibility requirements.

WHEN: The open enrollment period will be from Monday, June 10th, 2024, at
9:00 a.m. Eastern Time to Friday, June 14th, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
PLEASE NOTE: IT DOES NOT MATTER WHETHER YOU APPLY ON THE FIRST DAY OR THE LAST DAY. BELMONT WILL CONDUCT A LOTTERY TO ASSIGN PLACEMENT ON THE WAITLIST.
HOW: Applications will be accepted online only. Only one application per applicant will
be accepted. Duplicate or fraudulent pre-applications will be rejected. Paper applications
will not be distributed or accepted. If you need assistance in another language, Google Translate will assist you during the application process.
WHERE: Applications can be submitted ONLINE with the use of a personal computer,
laptop, smartphone, or tablet. There is no requirement to come to the agency’s office. The Buffalo and Erie County Public Library has branches throughout Erie County with public computers and free Wi-Fi. For library locations and hours visit: https://www.buffalolib.org/locations-and-hours.
Belmont Housing Resources for WNY office at 2393 Main Street and Financial Education Center at 1140 Jefferson Avenue Suite 137 will also have computers and staff available to
assist applicants Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
INFORMATION NEEDED: Full legal names and income information for every person in the household. Social Security numbers and birthdates for head of household. You must enter your total household income on the application. If your household has no income from any sources, you must enter zero in the income field. The information you provide must be truthful and complete to the best of your knowledge. An email addresses or phone number will be required. If you do not have an e-mail address, the application process will allow you to create one. As you complete the application process, you will create a login and password. Please keep this information.
APPLICATION SELECTION: Once the open enrollment period ends, a computer will randomly determine your place on the Wait List. Beginning on July 5th, we will post the status information on www.assistancecheck.com. Applicants may visit the webpage to check their location on the Wait List. All eligible applications will be placed on the Wait List; however, this does not guarantee you will be eligible for assistance.
WAIT TIMES: The HA does not provide emergency or immediate housing. The amount of time you will wait before your application is selected may be months to years. Voucher turnover and HUD funding may also affect the wait time. You will be notified when your application has been selected. Wait list applicants are required to report, in writing, changes of mailing address and family composition. The HA gives preference to applicants who live, or work in Erie County. If an applicant claims this preference, the applicant will be required to provide proof that they live or work in Erie County or did at the time they applied.

MAXIMUM INCOME LIMITS PER HOUSEHOLD SIZE: If your annual, gross household income is at or below these limits, you may qualify for assistance. (Income limits are subject to change.)
